Hammer en die HA!Man speel saam

COVER MESSAGE (Feb 2002)

the music on this CD is the result of bumping into Andrew on the streets of Grahamstown and of me not being prepared to believe all his troubles in search of money. "let's make music together" has been our motto ever since. Andrew is exceptionally equipped to make real "lekke" music with his guitar and his singing. and through all the tensions he has always made me happy with his music as i improvise along. we played on the streets a couple of times and i have promised him this CD for a long time now. we recorded with my mobile equipment on Thursday evening 27 June (2002). all in one go, and i've let the listener in on some of our in-between conversations. the music is South African, meaning a healthy mix of styles - ultimately "groove" music. after the live cello guitar and singing i have added some synthesized sounds to fleshen up the texture. the core however remains Andrew's guitar, his rhythms, his renditions of known songs and his enduring enthusiastic spirit. i have not given proper names to the songs.

we have always just played, me following his impromptu selections.
from his talking you would gather a title or two, however.

PLEASE support Andrew by buying this CD.
it will give you much pleasure and will help him forward in his struggling existence.
if you have any queries, problems contact me without hesitation.

My friendship with Andrew has introduced me to township life and
I value it as much as i value a visit to the glories of the first world.
Enlarge your own humanity by drinking in our sounds of enjoyment!

Francois le Roux (the Ha!man)

note that Andrew passed away in 2010, in utter poverty and illness
