Down to D was commissioned by a group of six cellists in Cape Town, 2007. Included was renowned South African cellists Peter Martens and Anmari van der Westhuizen. I wrote the piece by hand, without the aid of a piano. It turned out to be a series of six short movements that all somehow end up on a D. The work was included in their debut album, which you can listen to (above).
